Ridgebacks are primarily pets and need to live in the home as part of the family. They need wide, open spaces to run and play. The environment needs to be safe, secure and varied. They require at least two walks a day, to varied locations so they can adapt to different terrains, meet and socialise with other dogs and meet their biological needs. They require a healthy, varied, carnivorous diet to enhance their natural, muscular physique and maintain good health and immune systems. They need much love, reassurance, affection within strict boundaries of behaviour, using positive affirmation as a training tool. The rewards for the owners will be boundless if these guidelines are followed as Ridgebacks are fiercely loyal, loving and playful, happy dogs, eager to please and be an integral part of the family. They do not appreciate being left alone for any length of time. Wherever possible, take your Ridgeback with you! They will be universally admired for their beauty and character.
