Big week for our babies!

Well, the puppies reached their 6 week milestone on the 28th. We managed to get all of them to the vet by car, in two dog crates, for their first vaccine, worming tablet, microchip and European pet passport. They were a bit disconcerted on the way to the vet’s, until we played Van Morrison, then they were quiet!

They were all really good at the vets. He commented on how docile they were, all standing perfectly on the table to be examined and have their treatments. We created quite a stir in the waiting room! They were mostly asleep on the journey home. Only one puppy was slightly sick, a blessing! It is good to get them used to car journeys as young as possible.

Today was a new adventure! We decided to let them try swimming and have their first bath. We set everything up at the pool. Each of them swam to the steps from a short distance, three times. They liked the water. It wasn’t too cold for them. Some were more natural swimmers than others. We tempted them to climb out of the pool with treats and helped them get their footing. Afterwards, they had a nice bath in a large plastic storage box. They loved getting dried and cuddled, realising they were safe after their new experience! We will repeat this weekly as it is important for dogs to learn to swim and get ashore safely, especially when they live in a home with a pool.
