Midsummer’s day, puppy celebration – 5 week milestone!

The puppies were 5 weeks old yesterday, Midsummer’s day. We celebrated with a puppy party, inviting those interested in Ridgebacks as their special breed and, those interested in having a new puppy. It was a beautiful afternoon, 28 degrees, centigrade, with the puppies being cuddled and played with for hours!

The puppies are well used to their outdoor play kennel and are learning through play really quickly now. They are interested in their new playpen full of balls. At first they couldn’t get in or out of it and didn’t like to be there. Now they are clamouring over the side and running through the balls with each other.

Next week they are all going to the vet together to get their first vaccination, microchip, pet passport and worming tablets. We managed to get a superb photo of them all together on the sofa which has received wide acclaim! Next challenge is getting 13 puppies to the vet!! Watch this space…

They are well used to their balancing table, tunnel system and, raised bed. They are following each other through the tunnels, sparring with one another and running around a lot more. Their gait is steady and assured and, they now have control over their body temperature. We keep them cool in the afternoons with a water spray, which they enjoy, as well as a damp towel to lie on. They tend to burrow into corners, under the tunnel or raised bed or, even the balancing table, to go to sleep. They are eating 3 times more food than a week ago and are all around 3 Kg.
