Poppy is an amazing Mum. She has barely left her puppies side since they were born. She just nips outside to go to the toilet, when required and then runs straight back to the whelping box. All thirteen puppies are growing well and feeding. A few are needing frequent encouragement to feed but, are eager to feed when attached to the nipple. We are charting their weight gain daily as well as their percentage gain since birth, just to ensure all the puppies are thriving and, we know the ones to encourage. Our goal is that they double their birth weight within 10 days.
Poppy’s being fed chicken and rice broth, dry food with added fish, eggs or meat/chicken, every 5 hours. She’s not too interested in water but loves a bowl of cold milk, every few hours. It’s absolutely vital that she is well nourished and hydrated, in order to fulfil her hugely increased metabolic demands.
The babies are expanding before our eyes! We’ve already adjusted their collars for their increased neck girth. It is truly fascinating to observe the rapid development of these little cuties. Nature is the most wonderful thing!
